The First Wedding Ceremony During The School Break

Last Sunday we went for a wedding ceremony.

It was actually the wedding of the daughter of Shasha and Sarah's ex-babysitter when we were staying at my MIL's house at Cheras for about 6 months (I think) and after that we moved to our apartment but we still sent our daughters to the babysitter's house as hubby liked to "singgah" to his parents house everyday after work. Hmm.. mommy's favourite son.. what could I say... By the way, the babysitter's name is Kak Salmah.

We stop sending Shasha and Sarah to Kak Salmah's house after we decided that it was not convenient as Cheras is very far and we usually had to rushing from our home to avoid my punch card being printed red for late. Well... actually it was ME who made the decision. I was really tired and stressed you know. Can you imagine that you have to rushing everyday to go to work and when you got back to your own house, it is already 10 pm but you still have to do all the house chores and can only go to sleep after 12 am. When I had to go through these everyday, I got angry because it was me who have to bear all the tiredness everyday and to acknowledge that we have the options to send the kids to the nursery or other babysitter near our house. I was frustrated when my hubby decided to send the kids to Kak Salmah's house who lives nearby my parents-in-law's home when we have been living in our own house which is far away from their's.

Ok, let's get back to the story.

Kak Salmah and family are Indian Muslims. That's explain how Shasha got the some Malay-Indian words in her vocabulary like 'ata' (grandfather), 'bulum' (belum) etc. The wedding was a mix of Indian and Malay tradition, but more to modern kind of ceremony. It was held in a hotel's hall with a green theme. When we arrived, we were greeted by the immediate family who wears beautiful saris (for the ladies) and batik long sleeve shirt (for the men). We could see the hall was occupied with the Indian Muslim community. Many of them (ladies) wear baju kurung/kebaya with tudung and the men wore songkok/kopiah. They were speaking with their language and Bahasa Malaysia but I notice that most of the younger generation are more comfortable conversing in Bahasa Malaysia. I thought that when we got our seat, we can just eat and leave immediately as hubby wanted to send our car to get repaired. But eventually, the food only be served when the event started, which is after the bride and bridegroom took their seat at the 'pelamin'.

When the bride and bridegroom finally arrived, the audience were asked to stand up and the kompang was played by a Malay group. There were also a silat team consists of more than 20 men, 6 of them demonstrated their skills to the bride, bridegroom and the audience. There were 'merenjis' ceremony by both the parents and after eat, the bride and bridegroom went to the entrance to 'salam' with the crowd.

Some of the pictures taken.

The arrival of the 'pengantin'. The girl at the front is the bride's sister, Faizah and she was so attached with Shasha when Shasha was a baby.

Shasha's favourite bag. She wouldn't go anywhere without it. Inside are her toys, color pencils, paper and some other things for her to play with.

Izzat was so hungry he wanted to eat a plate.

My little munchkin.
